"When the Moon Goes Down in the Valley of Time"
African-American Gospel from 1939-51
A collection of African-American Gospel from 1939-51 complied by Ian Nagoski of Canary Records; "an abandoned LP project compiled in 2012-13 from 78rpm discs. Great gospel records of the 1940s by performers obscure and famous alike, much of it moving toward Civil Rights-era themes."
My favourites include "One Day" by Angelic Gospel Singers with the Dixie Humming Birds and "I'll Fly Away" by Southern Suns. 120 blue/yellow bi colour tapes are now available to pre order, beautifully designed by John Hubbard of Erikoismerkki Kirjasuunnittelu and with covers masterfully risographed by Jan Matthé of Risiko Press in Antwerp. Hear a sneak peek inside with "I'll Fly Away" by The Southern Sons
